The Coastal Biology, Natural History & Culture study abroad program, offered by the University of Florida’s College of Agricultural and Life Sciences, provides students with an immersive experience in the diverse coastal ecosystems of the United Kingdom. Spanning England and Wales, the program explores marine life, environmental conservation, and cultural heritage, blending scientific discovery with history and geography. The logo needed to capture the essence of this journey while reflecting the program’s academic and experiential focus.


The branding required a strong yet elegant visual identity that integrated key cultural and environmental symbols from the UK while maintaining clarity and adaptability across digital, print, and apparel applications. Additionally, the logo needed to convey the comprehensive nature of the excursion, which begins and ends in London while traversing multiple coastal and historical sites.


I designed a shield-based emblem that unites Welsh, English, and marine elements, creating a distinctive yet timeless identity for the program:

  • Red Dragon: A powerful symbol of Welsh heritage, representing strength, identity, and the program’s time in Wales.

  • Tudor Rose: England’s national floral emblem, symbolizing the historical and cultural aspects of the journey.

  • Wavy Ocean Lines: Representing the Atlantic Ocean, English Channel, and North Sea, emphasizing the coastal focus of the program.

  • White Cliffs of Dover: The top edge of the shield curves into a mound, visually referencing these iconic cliffs, a major natural landmark.

  • Encircling Ring: A full-circle shape encompassing the shield, representing the program’s complete journey—beginning in London, traveling through the Jurassic Coast, the English Channel, Wales, Northeast England, and the North Sea, before returning to London.



The logo provides a cohesive, meaningful visual identity that instantly communicates the program’s geographic, cultural, and scientific themes. By integrating national symbols with environmental elements, the branding reinforces the interdisciplinary nature of the study abroad experience, making it a strong and recognizable mark for recruitment, program materials, and student engagement.
